Tiffany Chu interview
Tiffany Chu is an incredibly talented actress, and she has played some unforgettable roles. Her starring role as a Koreatown hostess in Ms. Purple provided insight into an experience that most Americans weren’t familiar with at all. Her awesome work as the star in Twitch’s audience interactive show Artificial helped earn the show an Emmy for Innovation in Interactive Media. In Artificial, Chu played an artificial being named Sophie Lin who is trying to become a real human. More recently, Chu played a supporting role in the incredible film Catch the Fair One.
We had a chance to sit down with Tiffany Chu and chatted with her about her career and some of her favorite things. Let’s get to know Tiffany Chu!
We’d love to start with an intro! Could you please introduce yourself?
Hey👋 K-Snax! I’m Tiffany Chu. I grew up in San Jose, went to UC Irvine for Film & Media Studies and Drama, and now I’m based in LA!
Growing up, my parents always encouraged me to be curious and try everything, whether it was different hobbies, activities, or ways of thinking. That curiosity and openness to exploration shaped how I approach storytelling through acting—it’s all about stepping into new perspectives, understanding people, and constantly learning.
What’s been the most rewarding role of your career and why?
Every experience comes with its own rewards, whether big or small.
Winning and experiencing the Emmy’s for Artificial with Director Bernie Su and an incredibly chill, talented group was unforgettable—especially being part of such an innovative show.
Catch the Fair One with Director Josef Wladyka was another special experience. It reminded me of how powerful a set can be when kindness and professionalism lead the way. The entire team brought their A-game—not just in talent but in heart—prioritizing people over ego while telling an important story that amplified invisible voices. It was inspiring to witness and be a part of such a dedicated, compassionate group of creatives.
Who’s been your biggest inspiration as an actress?
I find inspiration all around me, in nature, in everyday people I see and interact with.
There are so many powerhouse women I admire and would love to work with one day—Julia Garner (for her chameleon-like ability to transform into any role), Jodie Comer (for her insane range and effortless charisma), Jennifer Lawrence (for her natural authenticity and fearless performances), Shu Qi (for her striking presence and versatility), Viola Davis (for the sheer emotional depth she brings to every performance), Meryl Streep (for her timeless mastery of the craft), and Zendaya (for her ability to bring both vulnerability and strength to her roles). The list could go on!
What’s your dream role?
That’s a tough one—there are so many! I’m drawn to meaningful characters and stories, but I’d also love the opportunity to train for an espionage-style role.
I’d love to dive into a role that involves intense training, like hand-to-hand combat, stealth, and strategy—something like a modern-day female spy thriller or a character who’s a mix of intelligence and action, similar to Killing Eve. There’s something really exciting about physically and mentally pushing yourself to embody a role like that.
What do you like to do for fun?
I love switching things up and trying new experiences—whether it’s picking up a new skill (like health biohacking or sign language) or staying active in ways that challenge both my mind and body. Some of my favorites are hiking, surfing, hot yoga, jiu-jitsu/MMA, dancing, cooking, sauna, cold plunges/cryotherapy, red light therapy, steam rooms, and soaking in a hot springs bath.
What are your favorite Asian snacks?
Lately, I’ve been obsessed with Pocket’s almond chocolate and Chia Te’s Nougat Green Onion crackers (I love the sweet and savory contrast!). I also love hot grass jelly, tofu pudding and honey lemon aiyu jelly—such comforting and refreshing desserts! 😋
