Rhea Raj interview
In 2016, Rhea Raj auditioned on American Idol and earned a golden ticket to Hollywood. Fast forward eight years later, and Raj has evolved into a bonafide pop star. On May 24, 2024, she released her debut album Hunter to glowing reviews. This came on the heels of Raj being one of the three finalists in last year’s Gold House's Futures Music Accelerator Program.
We had a chance to chat with Rhea Raj earlier this week. Keep reading to learn more about the talented artist and songwriter!
We'd love to start with an intro! Could you please introduce yourself?
I’m Rhea Raj - a pop artist, songwriter, producer, dancer and founder of Misschief Records
We absolutely love your debut album Hunter! What was the creative process like for your debut album from beginning to end?
My album HUNTER is a collection of unapologetic pop anthems that I co-wrote and produced with several dream collaborators over the span of 2 years. Its core message is about transforming from the “hunted” to the “HUNTER” and stepping into my power. I hope that when fans listen to the album or watch its visuals, they leave feeling more confident and beautiful than ever.
What's been the highlight of your trip to Korea so far? And what's it been like working on songs in Korea?
I just got back from Korea and getting to record in the studio with Pdogg and GHSTLOOP who produced “Like Crazy” for Jimin — one of my all time favorite songs — was surreal. They are immensely talented and I can’t wait to work together again.
What can your fans expect from you and your music over the next year?
Fans can expect to see more visuals from the HUNTER era - music videos, dance performances, a zine, and…more live shows!
What's been the highlight of 2024 for you so far?
I recently got the opportunity to record at the iconic Spotify x Coke Studio where I performed 4 acoustic versions of songs from my album "HUNTER" as well as my first Hindi x Arabic song "Kaho Na Kaho." I grew up watching Coke Studio videos so this was such a meaningful moment for me.
What are your favorite Asian snacks?
I love samosas, seaweed, veggie pakoras, and fresh mangos!
