PK (Paul Kim) interview

In 2018, PK (Paul Kim) was featured on Comedy InvAsian — the first ever Asian American standup comedy series on Hulu. He’s been one of our favorite comedians since, and he’s even been the MC and officiant of some of our friends’ weddings!

Last week, we chatted with PK about his career and his love for the Los Angeles Clippers. Let’s jump in and get to know PK better!

We'd love to start with an intro! Could you please introduce yourself?

Hi, I'm PK, husband, father of three, event director, MC, stand-up comedian.

I've performed at The World Famous Laugh Factory, Improv, Comedy Store, Pasadena Icehouse, Haha Comedy Club, and have opened for Jo Koy.  I've brought over 10,000 people to the clubs, many of them seeing stand up comedy live for the first time. I've also performed at over 100 universities across the United States.

PK stands for Paul Kim and Preacher's Kid. Preacher's Kids = Problem Kids. There were six other Paul Kims at my church.

I founded a non-profit organization and annual Asian talent show called Kollaboration. In our ninth year we had 6,300 people in attendance at the Shrine Auditorium.

I'm the co-founder of LiNK, Liberty in North Korea, a non profit organization dedicated to bring awareness to the needs of North Korean refugees.

Due to Kollaboration and Link, I was invited to The White House as a Champion of Change for his contributions to the community. Obama wasn't there that day though.

I run a wedding events company called Prokreation Productions (Proactive Kreativity) and have emceed, DJ'd, and provided sound for over 500 weddings.  I help makes babies!

How have you found yourself doing so many things successfully? And how do you find the time to do so much — especially with being a parent of 3?

I die daily! No really, I'm tired. But our kids are everything!

We’re Clippers fans like you. What’s made you stick with the team after all these years?

I'm a masochist! Love pain! I've been a fan since 1992. The Clippers IG follows me though and I get free tickets for my family. It’s awesome. I went to my first game alone because I went to a new high school and ate lunch alone in the beginning. The Clippers matched my mood. I have faith in them. One day!

What do you like to do for fun?

Standup comedy #1. Sporting events. Clippers, Rams, Dodgers, let’s go! Spend time with my wife and kids. Spend time with my friends and family. I love documentaries.

What's your favorite Asian snack?

Seaweed and soju.
